This website and everything on it is published by Monterey Bay Whale Watch, LLC. By using the site you accept the terms set out below.
The photographs are not free to use
This site carries 320 photographs contributed by 17 photographers over more than twenty years of trips on Monterey Bay. Each photograph remains the copyright of the photographer who took it. They are published here by permission, for viewing on this website only.
You may not download, copy, save, reproduce, republish, distribute, sell, modify, crop, or use any photograph from this site for any purpose, including on another website, in print, on social media, in a presentation, or to train or develop any machine learning or artificial intelligence system, without written permission from the photographer who owns it.
Viewing the site in a browser is fine. Everything beyond that needs permission first.
Whose work is here
Photographs on this site are copyright, all rights reserved, to:
Chris Hartzell, Coni Hendry, Daniel Lee Brown, Don Roberson, Eric Preston, Glen Tepke, Jeff Poklen, Jim Holmes, Les Chibana, Martijn Verdoes, Martin Meyers, Nancy Black, Richard Ternullo, Roger Wolfe, Todd Easterla, Tom Grey, Wendy Naruo.
Individual photographs carry their photographer's name in the caption beneath them. Please check the caption before making any request, because the right to grant permission belongs to that person, not to us.
Asking for permission
We are glad to help. Write to birdtrips@montereyseabirds.com telling us which photograph you mean and what you would like to use it for, and we will pass your request to the photographer. Because we do not own the images, we cannot grant permission ourselves, and no reply from us should be taken as permission to use an image.
Written content
The text on this site, including the trip reports, species descriptions and trip leader biographies, is copyright Monterey Bay Whale Watch, LLC, 2002 to 2026, all rights reserved. Short quotations for review, research or reporting are fine if you credit Monterey Seabirds and link to the page you took them from. Republishing whole pages or substantial extracts is not.
Linking to us
You are welcome to link to any page on this site, and we would rather you linked than copied. Please do not frame our pages inside your own site, or present our content in a way that suggests we endorse you.
The trip report archive is historical
The trip reports date from 2002 to 2023 and are kept as a record of what was seen on those days. They describe past conditions, past sightings and past prices, and are not a description of current trips or a promise of what you will see. For what is running now, see Trips.
Bookings
Trips are not sold on this website. Bookings are handled by FareHarbor on behalf of Monterey Bay Whale Watch, LLC, and the terms of your booking, including payment and cancellation, are those shown to you during the booking process. See also our privacy policy.
Accuracy
We take care to keep this site accurate, but trips depend on weather, sea conditions and the birds themselves. Nothing here is a guarantee of a particular sighting or a particular schedule.
