A Black-footed Albatross coming in head-on with wings fully spread

What we have found out there

Species

Since 2002 our trips have logged 107 species over the Monterey Canyon, 17 of them rare enough that a birder would cross a state for one. 15 trip leaders did the spotting; 11 photographers brought back the 98 pictures on these pages.

Below are the 92 we have a photograph of: 72 seabirds and 20 marine mammals, in checklist order.

* rare · # seen on the breakwater. Photographs are from the 2002–2013 archive and are small by modern standards; higher-resolution originals are being re-sourced. The remaining 15 species on the checklist are waiting on a photograph.
